St. Cloud
Nestled on the southern shore of East Lake Tohopekaliga nine miles southeast of Kissimmee[1] and 25 miles south of Orlando, St. Cloud draws visitors with its historic downtown, world-class freshwater fishing, and convenient access to Central Florida’s popular theme parks and attractions.
Locally-owned shops, quaint restaurants, live music, and colorful murals can be found in historic Downtown St. Cloud. Walkable and bike-friendly, this area is the perfect place to embark on a self-guided culinary bike tour and explore the scenic streets and diverse culinary scene. Along the waterfront, visitors will find the sand beach, marina, and fishing pier at family-friendly Lakefront Park, which also features a splash pad, playground, and boat ramp. At Crabby Bill’s, located at the marina, delectable seafood and panoramic lake views are on the menu, and guests can catch live music there on the weekends.
More local goods and treasures can be found at the Downtown St. Cloud Monthly Market on the last Wednesday of the month and the Downtown St. Cloud Farmers Market, which takes place every Saturday. Among the city’s other popular events are the Downtown St. Cloud Food & Art Festival and the 4th of July Celebration, which includes fireworks over the lakefront.
For freshwater angling adventures, 19,000-acre Lake Tohopekaliga and 12,000-acre East Lake Tohopekaliga, also known as Lake Toho and East Lake Toho, offer excellent fishing opportunities, and Lake Toho in particular is known for producing trophy-size bass. Other options for enjoying the area’s waterways include airboat rides by Wild Willy’s Airboat Tours and riverboat cruises by Toho Riverboat Adventures. For land-based adventures, Lake Runnymede Conservation Area offers short, easy hiking trails that showcase the preserve’s natural beauty and diverse habitats, which are home to populations of Sherman’s fox squirrels, bald eagles, and gopher tortoises.
While in St. Cloud, families of all ages will want to visit Reptile World Serpentarium, where visitors can hold snakes and baby alligators, feed turtles, and see various reptiles on display. In addition to the beach at Lakefront Park, the area offers several kid-friendly places to cool off and have fun, including the pool and splash pad at Chris Lyle Aquatic Center in town as well as the water parks and theme parks in the surrounding areas.
