Bunnell
The county seat of Flagler County, Bunnell has a population of fewer than 4,000 residents, but in area, the 141-square-mile town is one of the largest in Florida. The quaint city of Bunnell offers quiet natural surroundings and historic sites to explore as well as easy access to Flagler County attractions and beaches for fishing, surfing, and camping, waterfront dining, and more.
Visitors can experience some of the agricultural community’s history at places like Moody Homestead Park, home to majestic 400-year-old live oak trees, The Holden House, built in 1918, and the 150-acre Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park. During a self-guided ruins tour, remnants of the once-prosperous Bulow sugar plantation can be seen, including the coquina ruins of the sugar mill, a spring house, several wells, and the foundation of the mansion and cabins where enslaved people lived.
For families with children, Bunnell’s city parks and playgrounds offer low-key outdoor fun. Bunnell’s family-friendly events include the Flagler County Fair in April and the two-day Bunnell Italian Festival in October, which features a range of street foods to choose from, craft beer, wine, cocktails, and live music and entertainment.
Golfers visiting Flagler County have access to world-class golf courses. The par 71 course at Grand Reserve Golf Club, located off U.S. 1 in Bunnell, welcomes both novice and advanced players. For off-road excitement, there is the kid-friendly Pax Trax Mx Resort, which has a motocross track, RV campsites, service center, and cafe and offers lessons for all skill levels.
