Moore Haven
The county seat of Glades County, Moore Haven is situated at the junction of Caloosahatchee River and Lake Okeechobee, providing an array of outdoor recreation opportunities, from fishing, boating, and paddling to hiking and exploring archeological sites.
Its position on the river makes Moore Haven a nice stop for boaters along the Okeechobee Waterway, which runs more than 150 miles from the Atlantic Ocean in Stuart to the Gulf of Mexico at Fort Myers, connecting Florida’s two coasts.
At The Glades Resort, visitors can pull in off the river or the road for dining at the Riverfront Grill or a round of golf at the resort’s championship nine-hole course. Guests can stay at the resort marina or one of its many RV sites, and fish, paddle the river, or take the shuttle service to attractions in the area.
Visitors of all ages will enjoy a trip to Gatorama, where guests can see a variety of animals and hold baby alligators, and Okeechobee Airboat Charters offers family-friendly excitement on the water. Visitors can also take a drive south of Moore Haven to see the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Big Cypress Reservation in the Florida Everglades or head north to the tribe’s Brighton Reservation, home to Seminole Casino Brighton.
