Brooksville
Located in Hernando County, an hour north of Tampa along Florida’s Nature Coast, Brooksville was settled in 1845.
Rich with history and old-world charm, Brooksville is a great place to visit for camping, fishing, kayaking and canoeing.
A designated trail town, Brooksville is home to the 10-mile-long Good Neighbor Trail, which traces the route of the former Florida Southern Railroad Line, linking downtown Brooksville to the Withlacoochee State Trail. The Withlacoochee State Forest offers some of the best hiking and biking trails in the country.
Visitors can enjoy multi-use trails, sports facilities, local food and drink, library boxes, and plenty of local art throughout town. Don't miss a stop at the Brooksville Train Depot, dating back to 1885, and showcasing historical exhibits and model trains as well as an 1880s rail car.
Take a good look around. You might decide to stay for a while. After all, Brooksville was selected as Florida's Outstanding Rural Community for the Year 2000.
