DeFuniak Springs
Rich in history with a downtown centered around a spring-fed lake, DeFuniak Springs, 45 miles northeast of Destin in the Florida Panhandle, offers a relaxed, small-town atmosphere and the chance to step back in time and see hundreds of historic homes and buildings.
Visitors can explore the area’s past with a walking tour of the DeFuniak Springs historic district or see almost 200 historic buildings and homes by cruising Circle Drive around Lake DeFuniak. At Chipley Park and Lake DeFuniak, a popular spot for boating, birding, fishing, and swimming, visitors can enjoy views of the spring-fed lake, go paddling, and fish from the pier or boat.
Downtown stores and boutiques offer unique gifts, antiques, and more, and shoppers can pick up fresh baked goods and produce at the farmers market on Saturdays. At Café Nola, New Orleans-style cuisine is on the menu, and craft cocktails and more can be enjoyed at Bourbon Street Lounge. Next door, the renovated Hotel DeFuniak, built in 1920, welcomes guests to stay within the historic district. The downtown area also hosts special events throughout the year, including Christmas Reflections, the Christmas Tour of Homes, and LakeFest.
