For laid-back beaches, great food, and easy access to big-city attractions, Indian Shores, 30 minutes south of Clearwater on Florida’s Gulf Coast, has it all.
Walk for miles along the serene beach, which is connected to the beaches of other nearby barrier island towns, including Indian Rocks Beach just north of Indian Shores. Look for shells, watch the water for dolphins, and visit Seaside Seabird Sanctuary, which can be reached on foot from the beach. Check out local favorite restaurants like Salt Rock Grill for delectable seafood fresh from the dock.
Shop the Indian Shores Sunday Morning Market for fresh produce and local art. For more retail finds, browse souvenirs and T-shirts at Indian Shores Trading Company, and for a wide variety of places to shop, head to John’s Pass Village in nearby Madeira Beach, which has more than 100 merchants. Families with children won’t want to miss Splash Harbour Water Park at Holiday Inn & Suites Harbourside in Indian Rocks Beach, which is open to the public and has a 42-foot-tall water slide, or Clearwater Marine Aquarium, which is just 10 miles away.
At the end of the day, enjoy the splendor of a Gulf sunset from shore, book a sunset cruise, or take a quick drive to Clearwater Beach for Sunsets at Pier 60, a nightly, all-ages celebration featuring street performers and artisans.
