SATELLITE BEACH

Where

The City of Satellite Beach encompasses 17 beach crossovers and three Beach parks. In this smorgasbord of sand, sun and surf, Pelican Beach Park, located at 1525 Highway A1A, Satellite Beach, FL 32937, is a favorite.

Vibe

Relaxed and welcoming, Pelican Park gets high marks for its amenities, beauty, cleanliness, and lack of crowds. (During rocket launches and spring break it will fill more than usual.) Kids on skim boards, surfers riding the waves, and folks searching the sands for shells are all usual sights.

See, feel

At Pelican Park, walkways adorned with palms curve past enormous grills, shady pavilions and a kids’ playground, while a ramped, wooden boardwalk leads to the beach. It’s a glorious sight, with light brown sand that blends into a cocoa color by the vast, cerulean ocean. Shells are abundant, and the water has some rocks in it—which reveal themselves at low tide-- so you may want to wear water shoes or other protection. There are no high rises to block the views. Expect some waves, which will vary according to tides, the wind, and offshore systems.

On or near the beach

Relaxing, shelling, skim boarding and surfing are all popular ways to enjoy the sunshine and salt air. On the first Saturday in December, Pelican Beach Park hosts the Ocean Reef Beach Festival, a celebration of the ocean lifestyle.
