There's much to do at Florida Caverns State Park, but the guided tour of the underground dry caverns -- the only tour of its type in Florida -- is definitely the highlight.

You won't be disappointed - this 45-minute walk features formations that are about 38 million years old.

Stunning stalagmites, stalactites, rimstone pools (one is shaped like South America), and soda straws are just a few types of other-worldly creations in the caves.

Another cool thing about the cavern tour on a hot summer day is that the temperature stays about 65 degrees naturally, so take a break and beat the heat.

But there's more...

Make sure to save time to take a stroll on the Bluff Trail that's located at the Visitor Center parking lot. Huge limestone karst formations and several above-ground caves make great places to explore along your walk.

The Chipola River and Blue Hole spring provide areas for fishing, canoeing and boating. Florida Caverns State Park is popular for camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding. (The park does not rent horses; however, stables are available for equestrian enthusiasts.)

The park also features a nine-hole, New Deal-era golf course set in beautiful rolling terrain. The entrance is adjacent to the main park entrance; contact the Florida Caverns Golf Course at (850) 526-1148.

Cave tours are offered every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Here's another view of the underground caves.
