TREASURE ISLAND

Where

Treasure Island promises three miles of beaches in three distinct neighborhoods. Here’s information about its beaches, including their locations, amenities and parking. A favorite in this treasure trove of white sand is the City of St. Petersburg Municipal Beach, located at 11260 Gulf Beach Blvd., Treasure Island, FL 33706.

Vibe

Popular and family-friendly, with convenient amenities and epic sunsets.

Though a favorite with tourists and locals alike, Municipal Beach isn’t a party-hearty stretch of sand. Here, expect to see families, groups of friends, couples and everyone else who needs a baptism of salt water.

See, feel

The City of St. Petersburg Municipal Beach welcomes visitors with generous dunes, beach volleyball courts set in the sand, a smattering of palm trees and a concession that promises ice cream and beach toys. The sand is white and smooth, with only a few shells; while the water – shimmering with the trademark, stunning emerald color of most Gulf beaches-- tends to be tranquil and shallow, with a gently sloping bottom. The beach is wider than most, so expect a bit of a walk to the waves.

While the water is usually calm, winds, tides and offshore systems can occasionally cause rough conditions.

On or near the beach

Grab a candy-colored beach umbrella to plant in the sand and work on your tan; splash in the inviting waters; or meander by the surf to see shorebirds and glimpse dolphin. The little ones will love the spiraling slide in the playground, and bigger kids can burn off steam on the sand volleyball courts.

Fuel the fun with a picnic; a burger from the concession; or head across the street to Waffle House, serving up decadent breakfast delights 24/7.

Accessibility

The park offers beach-accessible wheelchairs and ADA parking, which is free. Here’s information about accessibility at other Treasure Island beaches.

Facilities

The City of St. Petersburg Municipal Beach offers a playground; restrooms, showers and changing rooms; beach volleyball courts; a concession serving up food, snacks, beer and wine and selling beach essentials; and beach umbrella and chair rentals on the beach. Though the park is open from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset, the concession and restrooms are only open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lifeguards

There are no lifeguards; swim at your own risk.
