Palm trees, lush landscaping, and benches nestled in the shade highlight this attractive park. The playground is complete with a swing set, curving slides and a mini stone sculpture, usually being well employed by giggling little ones. A concrete walkway with benches overlooks the beach, just wide enough to make for an easy walk to the water. The sand is soft, compact, and a golden-brown hue. The water is often a striking light blue, depending on the Atlantic’s mood.
Beloved by locals as well as families, Humiston offers a respite by the shore for anyone who needs a dose of vitamin D and salt water. Expect some waves, which will vary according to tides, wind, and offshore systems.
On or near the beach
Favorite activities include kicking back on the beach, playing in the waves, and letting the kids burn off steam in the playground. Pack a picnic or refuel at one of the eateries that directly border the park: Nino’s Café, serving up Italian food and pizza; or Citrus, an upscale, oceanside American bistro delivering goodies like black truffle fries and grilled local swordfish. Nearby, one-of-a-kind shops and eateries beg to be explored. On Saturdays from 8 a.m. – noon, the Vero Beach Farmer’s Market offers fresh eats and organic delights.
