HORSESHOE BEACH

Where

Butler-Douglas Memorial Park, also called Horseshoe Beach Park, is located at 244 8th Ave W, Horseshoe Beach, FL 32648.

Vibe

Eclectic, remote fishing and boating village with epic sunsets. A sparsely populated enclave that bills itself as ‘Florida’s last frontier’ -- truth in advertising, as the closest gas station is 20 miles away in Cross City -- Horseshoe Beach Park’s not a place to sunbathe or take a dip. But if you’re looking for exhilarating fishing, a peaceful night under the stars, and a real-life escape, welcome to your perfect fit.

See, feel

Despite its name, Horseshoe Beach Park doesn’t have a beach, but instead, a boulder lined shoreline sited at the end of a peninsula curving into the Gulf of Mexico. A few palms and eight picnic/camping pavilions border the parking lot, filled with trucks, boat trailers and RVs. Here, you’ll see campers, anglers casting onshore, and more boats offshore with fishermen. Promising a sweeping seascape to the west, you’ll want to stick around for the sunset over the waves—always different, and always memorable.

On or near the beach

Fish in the scallop shallows, or right from your campsite at this kicked back park. Afterwards, feast on your catch—or jog into town to Pizzaritaville or JanaLou’s Seafood if you’ve been unlucky. Make sure to catch the sunset, and spend the night with the salt air to soothe you to sleep.

Accessibility

Horseshoe Beach Park doesn’t offer any accessible amenities.

Facilities

Amenities at the park include a paved, public boat ramp; parking for cars and boat trailers; restrooms and showers; shelters with picnic tables; and eight campsites with accompanying pavilions, first come, first served. You can’t reserve campsites. The camp host will come around at sunset to collect the camping fee. Prices are posted at the park.
