Fish-Tale Marinavia Facebook Capt. Rob Modys of SoulMate Charters spent some quality time in the Gulf this week thanks to the drop in winds. He reported a steady bite on the rock piles and nearshore reefs with a mix of sheepshead, trout, pompano and spanish mackerel. There were also quite a few flounder mixed in and the occasional big black drum. All were caught using jigs with live shrimp worked slowly across the bottom. The inshore trout bite was on fire. The best bite was about mid-tide using live shrimp under popping corks in 3 feet of water. There were lots of ladyfish and a few jacks in the same area. The redfish were biting well at the top of the tide along the mangrove islands in the back bays. Shrimp on jigs tossed close to the edges and worked slowly back to the boat worked best.
