Tidbit: In 1885, Capt. James A. Armour employed a young Assistant Keeper named Dwight Allen, who used to maneuver the riggings of a Naval ship. With limited entertainment in those days, Dwight would amuse himself and the ladies by walking around the railing of the lighthouse, the edge of the roof and when he was sure they were looking…would do handstands on the parapet. Now that’s extreme lighthouse keeping!
