The 12-mile, multi-use, paved “Four Freedoms Trail” extends north from the city limits of Madison to the Withlacoochee River, a designated paddling trail, at the Florida-Georgia border. Located near State Road 145 (Colin Kelly Highway), north of U.S. 90, visitors to the Trail enjoy walking, biking and horseback riding. Covered rest areas and picnic facilities are located along the Trail.
After visiting the Trail, tour downtown Madison which was designated as one of the "Best Little Towns in Florida" by VISIT FLORIDA. The County Seat, with a population of just over 3000, is overflowing with 150-year old structures, antique stores, outdoor shops and local eateries.
