Tallahassee is, of course, Florida's capital. But that doesn't mean it's all work and no play.

If you're traveling to Tallahassee with kids, there are plenty of ways to amuse them. Discover these 5 budget-friendly things to do with kids in Tallahassee:

1. Railroad Square Art Park

Railroad Square Art Park. Teens who like to stand out will love hunting and pecking for one-of-a-kind treasures at the First Friday Gallery Hop. On the first Friday of each month, this cluster of warehouses-turned-art-studios hosts a free block party with live entertainment, food trucks, vendors and galleries that stay open late. Admission is free.

2. National High Magnetic Field Laboratory

National High Magnetic Field Laboratory: Here's a bit of trivia for your next cocktail party -- one of the world's strongest and largest magnets makes its home as Florida State University's "Mag Lab." Its magnetic field is 1 million times stronger than that of planet Earth. For families who dig science, this is a can't-miss attraction. Make an appointment for a free tour.

3. Mission San Luis

Mission San Luis. This National Historic Landmark proves that there was life in Florida before Disney World. Go back in time in a reconstructed Spanish mission, full of costumed characters, hands-on exhibits, replicas of 17th-century architecture and more. Admission is just $5 for adults, $2 for ages 6 to 17 and $3 for seniors 65 and older. Active-duty military get in free with ID.

4. Canopy Roads

Canopy roads. Can't get your kids to look up from their smartphones? A drive through Tallahassee's picturesque "canopy roads" should get their attention. The city boasts nine official canopy roads -- streets lined with moss-covered live oak trees -- for a total of 78 miles of scenic driving. Happy trails.

5. Cascades Park

Cascades Park. Downtown Tallahassee's newest park offers something for everyone, including a splash pad, exercise trails, an amphitheater hosting A-list performances and historical markers paying tribute to the African-American community that once thrived on the site of this urban oasis. Most activities are free.
