If your family is like mine, we're always looking for ways to have big fun with the kids while spending very little. So I've compiled this list of my Top Ten for About $10 in Miami.
This place was built in 1891 and admission is free for kids six and under. It’s right on Biscayne Bay and kids can learn how pioneer families survived in south Florida. They can also run all over the grounds.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park
With a historic lighthouse (the oldest structure in Miami) not to mention picnicing swimming and sunning this mile of beach is tops with families. It's also the #8 beach in America for 2012. Admission is $8 per vehicle (up to 8 people).
It’s one of the world’s most fascinating unsolved mysteries. Seriously it is. Can your kids figure out how Ed built this place by himself? Adults are $9.75 kids (7-12) $5 six and under are free. (Insider tip: have lunch at Shiver’s BBQ just a few blocks away on US1 and SW 280th Street.)
This National Park is a World Heritage Site and there is no place like it in the entire U.S. Haven't been yet? You've got to go. Vehicle fee is $10 – and it’s good for seven consecutive days.
It’s the only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the entire U.S. Wander with your kids through 37 acres of exotic fruit trees or take a guided tour. Be sure to picnic by their new lake. Adults $8, children 6-12 $2. Their onsite Mango Cafe is great! Lobster rolls and fresh made salsa!
Refreshing fun for everyone with four different pools (by age and theme) a lazy river and outdoor art by world-renown Romero Britto. Adults $10, ($11 for non-Miami residents) and $5 for ages 4 thru 13.
Visit an Indian Camp see alligator demonstrations spy all kinds of wildlife and learn about the Tribe’s culture and history. Adults $8, kids (5-12) $5. Airboat rides are only $10.
Cascading waterfalls spray misters lush foliage and trees (that provide shade) we love this course! $6 a game Mon-Fri 7 a.m. till 6 p.m. Evening play is $7.
Meander down fabulously shaded paths of their historical botanical gardens on your way to the petting zoo Splash 'N' Play water playground butterfly exhibit and playground. Admission is FREE (yes the petting zoo too)! The Splash n’ Play is only $3. Bring bread to feed the fish or quarters to get fish food from a machine.
820,000 gallons of spring water surrounded by a coral rock quarry with swim-through caves and grottos. Yes, it is as amazing as it sounds. Bring the camera; it's gorgeous. Kids 3-12 are $6.30. Children under 3 are not allowed. (Ok, so the adult price is now $11 -- but it's worth it!)
