Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out - James Bryant Conant
It’s one of Florida’s coolest adventures, and you shouldn’t miss it.
I’m talking about sea turtle walks. They’re all about what I love most about Florida, about the beach and being outside and understanding nature and protecting it.
At 9 p.m., on Thursdays and Fridays from May-through July, you can experience one for yourself, thanks to the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge and Nature Center (13640 S.E. Federal Hwy, Hobe Sound). They’ll be conducting night time sea turtle walks on a local beach to educate the public about these endangered reptiles.
Even better, these walks won’t leave your wallet wailing. A donation of $5 per person is requested – a bargain by any measure!
Reservations are required, and there’s a maximum number of 30 people per walk. Be prepared: Walks could go on until midnight — or later — depending on the nesting activity by loggerhead turtles.
