With its combination of Old-Florida charm, art, museums, gardens, fun eateries, and coastline, Punta Gorda is an ideal spot for a quick getaway in Southwest Florida.

Visit lush botanical gardens, view giant sculptures, explore the town by bike, and take a sunset tiki cruise using this itinerary for two days in Punta Gorda.

Day one

Begin your Punta Gorda adventure with a morning visit to Peace River Botanical & Sculpture Gardens on Riverside Drive. Situated on the shore of the Peace River and spanning nearly 30 acres, the property is a combination of world-class sculptures, beautiful gardens, wetlands, and uplands. Be sure to see the native Florida butterfly house while you’re there.

Next, have lunch in town. Try Peace River Seafood and Botanicals for shrimp ceviche, mussels, crab, and key lime pie, and check out their seafood market before you leave.

Now it’s time to check in at your hotel and get ready for your sunset cruise with Cruisin’ Tikis Charlotte Harbor, which departs from TT’s Tiki Bar.

As evening draws near, you’ll prepare to spend two hours listening to music aboard a tiki boat and seeing some of the best sunset views around. Cruisin’ Tikis doesn’t offer food or drinks, but you can bring along a packed picnic — which can be any food or drinks you like, including alcohol — or takeout from a nearby restaurant to enjoy on the water. Cruisin’ Tikis has ice available on board.

Day two

Start your day with breakfast at a local favorite eatery — try Burg’r Bar or Dean’s South of the Border.

Once you’re fueled up and ready to go, pick up a free loaner bike in downtown Punta Gorda. Then ride your bike through town in search of the city’s 30 murals showing the town’s culture and history.

After seeing the murals, head to the Military Heritage Museum, where you can try a flight simulator, experience virtual reality, and see historical artifacts. The museum also has a laser gun range and theater, and veterans serve as volunteer guides.

Next, grab some lunch less than a mile down the road at Pizza Gorda, which serves wood-fired pizza, salads, and wine, and has tables on the patio for dining al fresco.

After lunch, head 1.4 miles down the road to the Visual Arts Center. In addition to three galleries with rotating exhibits, the Visual Arts Center has an art supply store and art library and offers classes, workshops, and art socials.
