Load up the 10x10 tent and chairs, choose a signature cocktail and head to Ocala’s polo grounds for a change of pace. Yes, you can buy a single ticket to the match but savvy regulars make it a day out by reserving tailgate spots. The rules are relaxed — guests can bring their own food and drink and well-behaved pooches are welcome on a leash. Stomping divots is still a thing, so wear or bring appropriate shoes to join in the action. And speaking of football … Did you know that a polo field is the size of nine football fields? In other words, binoculars come in handy. Matches start at 4 p.m. on Saturdays and 1 p.m. on Sundays. https://www.ocalapolo.com

GATE RIVER RUN — A 15K is a dime a dozen in the state of Florida, but Jacksonville’s annual race is also the USA 15K Championship and features a bridge “affectionately” known by all who pass over it near the end of mile seven as “The Green Monster”. The elite runners competing for thousands of dollars in prize money get a head start. Everyone else will enjoy a course that winds through downtown before crossing the St. Johns River on the city’s iconic Main Street Bridge. After that, it provides runners with a gorgeous tree-lined route through the south bank’s historic neighborhoods of San Marco and St. Nicholas before finishing back at Everbank Field. THE PLAYERS — Last year, Rory McIlroy’s second win at The Players could have been seen as a harbinger for his emotional win at The Masters less than a month later. Will he repeat? Or will Scottie Scheffler, golf’s new phenom crash the party. Scheffler is a major storyline heading into the start of the season one of only three golfers — Tiger Wood and Jack Nicklaus are the others — with over 20 wins and four majors before age 30. As always, the hottest spot at the course is around hole 17’s infamous island green. In other interesting news, the rapper Ludacris was tapped to headline the annual Military Appreciation Day concert on March 10. Usually, it’s a country star. Tickets are always easier to score than on-site parking passes on Thursday through Sunday. Stay tuned for information on off-site parking or shuttle services to and from the course closer to the tournament’s start.

EN PLEIN AIR — Watch stunning landscapes go from the horizon to the canvas in real-time as artists capture the iconic Florida locales during one of these annual events.

  • Plein Air Paint Out (St. Augustine, March 20-22): View St. Augustine’s cobblestone streets, Spanish-inspired architecture and sweeping coastal view through the eyes and brushstrokes of local or visiting artists. The paint out is open to all artists! https://staaa.org/event/plein-air-weekend
  • Forgotten Coast En Plein Air (Apalachicola, March 20-29): The best plein air painters have a gift that allows time to stand still. Maybe it’s the play of light on the gulf. Or, the way the wind rustles palm fronds. Or the lazy rock of a skiff in the waves. Apalachicola’s 21st annual event not only allows you to watch acclaimed artists at work but it also offers a variety of Lunch and Learn opportunities that explore the complexities of capturing a moment in time. Although the guest artists are the week’s main draw, anyone with their own supplies can enter the annual Quickdraw competition! All participants will have two hours to start and finish their “masterpiece” for judging. Always make time to visit the wetroom to view all art completed throughout the fest. To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the fest has released a book collecting favorite artworks created throughout the years. https://www.forgottencoastenpleinair.com

The Grand Parade features krewes with more than 100 decorated floats, marching bands and more. After, head to Jubilee in the Park for a little shopping from more than 200 art, craft and food vendors. Guests looking for a “lighter” morning workout than the Springtime 10K, instead can register for the 5K or 1-Mile races. Don’t forget, the party technically starts with Friday night’s music festival. The event will announce the lineup of artists headlining the annual music festival closer to the date.
