Shopping at MIA
By Ginger Harris
I headed to the Miami International Airport bright and early recently to catch a flight to Tampa. Normally, I wind up a side of the airport that I'm all too familiar with. This time, however, I wound up in a part of the terminal I'd yet to see.
And happily so. Just outside my American Airlines terminal at Concourse D, near Gate 17, I found more airport shopping than I could imagine.
The Shoppes at Ocean Drive, which actually opened several years ago, brings a mall concept to airport shopping. It's the kind of spot that will make those back home awaiting a gift from the Gold Cost ever so thankful. The idea comes from Ocean Drive magazine, which partnered with the airport to bring a taste of Miami to passengers.
Inside, find local brands that define Miami's style when it comes to food and fashion. There's art by Britto, Ocean Drive News for reading material, Peace Love World clothing, Mischa's cupcakes at the Prive Gourmet Market and more. It's also the country's first mini department store inside of an airport.
I scooped up a few things for kiddo from the awesome toy selection and grabbed a locally made lemonade, too, all the while eyeing the treats while I waited for my flight.
Let's just put it this way, if my next trip is delayed, I now know exactly what to do to pass the time.
If you go …
