When it comes to incredible places to camp in Florida, you just can't beat making a Florida State Park your home for a few days.

When camping at Fort Clinch State Park in Fernandina Beach, you get a little bit of everything: history, wildlife, trails, fishing, beautiful beaches and a couple of wonderful campground loops. This is one park that will keep you busy.

In our RV travels, I've noticed that some people hardly ever leave the campground, even with so much to do at other spots in the park. Some folks just like to lounge around and maybe walk down to the beach. I'm guilty of doing this on occasion, too.

Since we've been on the road, I'd have to say that the Atlantic Beach Campground is the best spot we've stayed in the RV. When you travel full time, you start to really appreciate good shower and laundry facilities, and this particular camp had the best ones yet. Fantastic.

It's just a short walk down to the beach from the Atlantic Campground, and I made a habit of taking a nightly beach walk, looking for shells and other cool stuff that might have been tossed up on shore.

During our stay, the weather wasn't the best for typical beach activities, but the windy conditions made for great shelling. Over near the Amelia River Campground I found a couple of shark's teeth, which are pretty common along the water on that side of the park. Just dig around a little, you’ll more than likely find a few.

This is a really popular park for camping, so make sure to reserve your site as early as possible. You may get lucky and land a walk-up site, but I wouldn't bet on it.

So, load up all of your gear and start planning your visit. Fort Clinch State Park is a grand slam, and offers something for everyone, regardless of age or ability. Go there.
