West Palm Beach is one of the premier spots for golf courses – with PGA National, The Breakers, and the Bears Club. These are perfect spots if you're a member or staying at those resorts, but what if you're looking for an easy public course where you can walk right in?

I went looking in West Palm for a golf course that wasn't a muni and wasn't a private club, but a public course with country club standards. It was a so hard find! Then, during a drive down the coast, I came across President Country Club and I was quite impressed.

President Country Club is a semi-private club, and the rates are more than reasonable at $65 per round. What really caught my eye about this course was the scenery. The course is surrounded by beautiful lakes and exotic birds.

The staff treats you like one of the members, which is rare at most public courses these days. The locker rooms are dolled up, and the clubhouse is fully stocked. Welcome to the club!

Each hole is memorable with different layouts as you go along. This means there are a lot of risk-reward opportunities. On the third hole you can take five wood straight up the middle, or if you're feeling adventurous (like I usually am!) you can cut off more fairway by taking a driver over the trees and bunkers on the right.

There are five impressive sets of tees, with the back tees reaching over 6,800 yards. With a few elevated greens and the placement golf I played to work around hazards, I chose the second-farthest tees. These were a perfect challenge!

The greens rolled smooth. There were birdie putts to be made, but the dips and hills on these greens definitely make you walk around your putts. Take your time and you'll be rewarded.

If you're looking for a private country club feel with public prices, then President County Club is the perfect spot for you!

Hit 'em straight.

If you go…
