My family and I recently set out to explore historic Apalachicola, located in the Northwest area of the state. What we found was a city with a deep maritime history, fantastic food and a laidback way of life.
Our ‘home away from home’ was the Water Street Hotel & Marina, with friendly service and spacious suites with plenty of room to relax.
Here are five reasons why your family might enjoy the Water Street Hotel & Marina:
Riverfront views – Each suite has a screened-in balcony overlooking the Apalachicola River. We loved watching the boats come in and out. Plus, there's plenty of wildlife to view.
Location, location, location – Take a stroll down the street to the Up the Creek Raw Bar. This family-friendly restaurant features great dishes, such as alligator empanadas, crab cakes and plenty of fresh oysters.
Suites with bunk beds – If you’re traveling with little ones, book a room that includes bunk beds. Our kids loved having their own room, complete with a television.
Full kitchen – Every suite features a full-sized refrigerator, oven, stove and microwave. There are plenty of dishes, utensils and gadgets – perfect for preparing meals within your suite.
Bring your boat – If you want to bring your boat along for the trip, reserve one of the hotel’s 20 boat slips. You’ll be exploring the Gulf of Mexico or the Intracoastal Waterways in no time.
Insider Tip: If you’re traveling by car, bring along your bikes. The historic district is great to explore on two wheels. If you don’t have a bike, inquire at the front desk – they can arrange for rentals.
