In Pensacola, the Noble Manor Bed and Breakfast is by turn friendly, lovingly decorated and efficiently run. Another plus is the location in the North Hill Historic District, perfect for exploring the bygone centuries of this storied city.

Upon arrival, the beauty of the wood in the entrance hall's staircase exemplifies the design of this turn-of-the-century gem. Built in the Tudor Revival style in 1905, the inn shows other evidence of Pensacola’s involvement in the timber industry with heart pine floors and details like crown mouldings.

The Noble Manor B&B includes three guest rooms upstairs, each of which has a private bath. My suite was incredibly spacious, with a sitting area, king-sized bed and walk-in closet. And the bathroom was luxurious, with slate and stone that made me feel like I'd been dropped into the magazine spread of a spa.

Rich textures and colors plus natural light from the many windows at the inn combine with the window treatments to add depth and elegance. No detail was spared in the decor, of which the most intriguing part are the exquisite petit-pointe tapestries created by the talented owner.

A well-prepared breakfast is served in the formal dining room. Aromatic coffee, eggs, fresh fruit and other staples are artfully presented, yet the atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. Conversation with guests from the Midwest was easy and welcome, and I learned that they regularly spend weekends at the inn.

The gardens are lovely, and include a swimming pool, gazebo and Carriage House suited for larger parties or romantic getaways.

Noble House is in the Historic North Hill Neighborhood, which sits on a ridge of high land overlooking historic downtown Pensacola. According to the North Hill website, "Its history is rich, from battlefield to preservation district, and all points in between... Conveniently located to downtown, today, North Hill remains a desired neighborhood of sturdy, architecturally detailed homes."

Pensacola's downtown architecture retains tremendous character and many elements of its history, including a wonderful blend of French Colonial, Spanish Colonial and British Arts and Crafts influences. Noble Manor Bed & Breakfast's owners help maintain the neighborhood's integrity and attraction for visitors.
