Beech Street Grill Offers Romance and Fine Dining in Fernandina Beach

    By Hilda Mitrani

A sonorous grand piano playing Sinatra tunes was my accompaniment at Beech Street Grill in Fernandina Beach. The bistro, located in a historic home, is a sensory delight. Its aromatic dishes are served in a dining room with wide bay windows, fine architectural details and an easy ambiance.

My evening here was quite memorable. I enjoyed looking through the creative menu and extensive wine list. Each day's specials include seafood sourced from the Amelia Island waters and seasoned with freshly-cut herbs, homemade sauces and chutneys.

Quality and attention to detail are apparent. My salad of arugula with gorgonzola, apples, pecans was dressed with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. For an entree, I had large scallops that were most tender and flavorful. The aroma was so enticing that I devoured it before taking a photo!

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Fairbanks House, an exquisite Fernandina Beach bed and breakfast, has created an ultra-romantic "Rest, Relaxation and Romance" pre-holiday package with brunch at the Beech Street Grill.

The inn provides roses, wine and chocolate-covered strawberries upon arrival, a harbor tour with Amelia River Cruises, daily gourmet breakfasts and evening hors d'oeuvres. On Sat., Feb. 12, explore the galleries during the Second Saturday Artrageous Artwalk.

Then, to add a little extra romance, couples are invited to sleep in on the Sunday before Valentine's Day, then go to the Grill for brunch.

Oh and that baby grand piano - it's played by the talented John Springer. He'll surely be playing some romantic ballads for diners on Valentine's Day. Ask him to play your favorite song.

Here's a link to my favorite Sinatra song, Strangers in the Night! (I hope I'll be hearing it on Valentine's Day!)
