Ochlockonee River (Lower) Paddling Trail

More than 50 miles of this trail winds through the Apalachicola National Forest, past high pine bluffs and dense hardwoods. Tate's Hell State Forest and Ochlockonee River State Park also border the river. Near the state park, the end of the trail, the river widens and motorboats are more common. Adjoining tidal creeks near the Gulf offer miles of exploration and one can extend their trip through Ochlockonee Bay to Bald Point State Park. Releases from the Jackson Bluff Dam vary water levels. Public campgrounds and fish camps are numerous. Due to its wild and scenic nature, the Lower Ochlockonee River is a designated Florida paddling trail.

Good posture will keep you paddling more comfortably and longer. Read More » Keep your back straight or slightly forward, knees slightly bent. Your grip on the paddle should be relaxed – practice makes perfect.  Read Less »
