Official Insider Advice

Hi Sumintra,

Thanks for writing.

It would really help me if I knew a little more about what you are looking for, because I want to make sure I send you to the perfect spot for YOU.

That being said, I am going to assume you don't want a party-hearty beach with lots of crowds, but someplace with charm, intimate restaurants and good beaches. Here are a few of my favorite getaways that have these qualities.

I am going to give you a little info about each of these destinations. To find out more about each of them, put them into the VISIT FLORIDA search engine. It will give you lots more info you can filter by photo, blog, article or video.

Anna Maria Island: By Tampa, it's a little sliver of an island on the gulf with lovely white sand beaches. It is affordable, has an old-fashioned charm, and is very laid back, with lots of water sports and nature activities.

Captiva Island: This is a little north of Fort Myers Beach. It's tiny with very cool, quirky restaurants and shops. It's known for shelling and is a hideaway for celebrities. It is not high fashion but is upscale.

Seaside: In NW Florida, this is a very simple, beautiful, upscale, elegant destination that will tend to be quiet. You can walk everywhere you want to go and the beach is a '10.' If you want to parasail and jetski and ride on a pirate ship -- this is NOT the place. Think quiet walks on the beach and bike rides and having steamed shrimp overlooking the beach and you'll have it about right.

Delray Beach: This is located in the southern part of In Palm Beach County. It's upscale, cute, charming, and has all the amenities of a big city in a little seaside village. It's got lots of nightlife and shopping but no traffic and free parking, plus lots to do.

Amelia Island: This is in the NE corner of the state. I love this little island. It's got accommodations in all price ranges, from super-fancy to affordable, and has lots to do without being touristy. It's very historic and also oozes charm.

Hopefully this helps!

Let me know if you narrow down your choices and need more details or advice.

Lauren
