Hi Gina,
Thanks for writing! St. Pete Beach is lovely.
The best beach in the area to find shells is Fort De Soto Park. Here’s a guide to shelling there. You can also rent a canoe or kayak there. This unofficial website dedicated to the park is a useful guide.
Here is also a guide to shelling on area beaches from Pinellas County with more suggestions, and here is the official website of Fort De Soto Park.
The closest zip-line to St. Pete Beach is at Forever Florida, which is several hours from you (though great fun). However, there’s lots of adventure to be had.
Here’s a link from VISIT St. Pete/Clearwater with lots of suggestions (rent a wave-runner, go offshore sailing, learn to SCUBA Dive, etc). Just hit the ‘find things to do’ link.
Another unusual adventure in the area that’s kind of fun is ‘horse-surfing’ in Palma Sola Bay (the kids can do it, too). Here’s a link to an article I wrote about it.
Have a great time!
Lauren
