Hog Island was renamed Honeymoon Island in 1939 when a New York developer constructed 50 honeymoon bungalows for use by couples chosen through a contest sponsored by major department stores. Today, you can enjoy gulf beaches, mangrove swamps and tidal flats by driving across Dunedin Causeway. Naturalists will find osprey nests, a wide variety of shorebirds and one of the few remaining south Florida virgin slash pine stands along the island's northern loop trail. Enjoy swimming, fishing and the scenery from nearby picnic areas. Read Less
