The historic Cape St. George Light, originally built in 1852, has been reconstructed on St. George Island after the tragic collapse of the lighthouse in 2005. Original materials were salvaged and used in the reconstruction. The lantern room was recast using the original pieces as patterns.  The lighthouse is open to the public on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday from 12 noon  to 5 p.m.  The lighthouse is closed on Thursday.

The St. George Island Visitor Center & Lighthouse Museum is located next to the lighthouse and includes information on the history of the lighthouse and a small display of lighthouse artifacts.  The Center also has a complete supply of brochures, maps, and other information about food, lodging, and things to do and see on St. George Island and in Franklin County.  A limited amount of lighthouse merchandise is available with a donation to the St. George Lighthouse Association.

The lighthouse and museum are located in St. George Lighthouse Park at the center of St. George Island.  The park also includes beach access with an outdoor shower, picnic pavilions, outdoor grills, a basketball court, and children's playground. Read Less
