Florida Air Museum At Sun 'n Fun

STEMtastic (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) camp for ages 7-12 is sponsored by the Florida Air Museum. The STEM curriculum will include rocketry, flight simulation, DVD’s and hands-on construction offered throughout the week. Age appropriate activities will be held indoors and outside depending on the activity.

Wings 'n Things is hosted annually by the Florida Air Museum at SUN 'n FUN beginning the first Friday in November ( Nov 2, 3 & 4, 2012). It is a 3-day camping weekend showcasing the dynamic world of aviation especially for youth ages 7 to 18. Aviation enthusiasts gather to share their knowledge and interests with youth groups and families throughout Florida and the southeast. Activities support Girl Scout, Boy Scout and Royal Rangers badge requirements and peak the interest of kids who just like airplanes. Local families and groups can join the fun with a Saturday only pass. Aircraft parking is available on the grass in front of the FAA building for those flying in. Pre-registration is required for all participants (download a registration packet.) Wings 'n Things is held on the SUN 'n FUN campus, families and youth groups enjoy the expansive campground and the breadth of activities offered (dry camping included with admission; full RV Hookups available for a fee). Programmed events begin at 8 p.m. Friday evening with a NASA speaker and an astronomy demonstration. Campers activities begin at noon. Many youth take advantage of SUN 'n FUN's "First Flight" program (weather permitting). Lunch is served at noon on Saturday with activities continuing through 4 p.m.. Saturday evening, adults and youth enjoy movies in our pavilion or the huge campfire in the campground. The fun continues Sunday with church services, museum tours and map quest challenges. Wings 'n Things activities include full motion simulators, flight simulators, First Flights, rocket building (and launch), RC aircraft demos, propeller making, wing rib construction, balsa gliders, classes (astronomy, aviation, electricity, first aid, space exploration and weather), basic orienteering course, map quest treasure hunt, museum tours and many other fun aviation activities for all ages.

Every April, tens of thousands of aviation enthusiasts travel from around the world to attend the SUN 'n FUN International Fly-In and Expo, one of the world's premier aviation events. Held at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, FL, this week-long aviation extravaganza features over 4500 airplanes, more than 500 commercial exhibits showcasing the latest products in the industry, a daily air show and Friday night air show and fireworks featuring the world's greatest aerobatic pilots, and more than 400 educational forums, seminars, and hands-on workshops for virtually every aviation interest. Nightly entertainment keeps guests happy until late in the evening.
