I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.
Come one, come all to the last open house for 2012 at Three Sisters Springs! Event is this Sat, Feb.11: http://t.co/CYi515em

Back in September, I blogged about the Big Cypress Swamp documentary by Elam Stoltzfus (read that post here) which was airing on Florida Public Broadcast Television. Since I'm one of those weirdos that doesn't have a television set, I didn't catch the show. Elam was kind enough to send me a DVD of the documentary so that I wouldn't feel so left out. Thanks, Elam!
The film transports you into Big Cypress with stunning visuals and conversations from some of the individuals who worked tirelessly to save the swamp from development. Elam Stoltzfus precisely captures the incredible beauty and importance of Big Cypress, right down to the smallest detail. It's a true work of art, and will leave you with a better understanding of our connection to the natural world and how important it is that we preserve places like this for future generations. I give the film two thumbs up!
If you didn't catch the documentary on PBS, I believe you can pick up at http://bigcypressswamp.org, and here is a 7-minute teaser of the video on YouTube to show you what the documentary is all about. Enjoy!

This is a beautifully done video. It very much touched my heart. I'm just beginning to put together information for a novel I intend to write which, in part, will focus on the Everglades/Cypress parts. Could you suggest a couple of sources I should approach re information on the ecology, wilderness areas, and environmental threats to these national treasures? I'm also concerned whether "factory farming" posses a threat.
