I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.

This past weekend, I desperately tried to catch up on some writing and tend to some things around the house, but I was feeling a little overwhelmed. So I went for a walk in the woods instead. After the walk, I pulled out my laptop and worked at a park bench for a good while. It's always amazing how a short stroll in the woods can get me right back on track!
So, where did I go? I headed over to the 2.5-mile Eco-walk trail at Crystal River Preserve State Park, which passes through several habitats complete with informative signage and benches. The trail is typically flat, wide and grassy, so it's an easy walk. Don't get in a rush. This trail is made for learning and is perfect for outdoor education groups. Take your time, stop often, look around and listen. I saw a little alligator in a pond, two deer and a box turtle. Birding is excellent here as well, and this location is a stop on the Great Florida Birding Trail.
Here's a short video to give you an idea of what to expect. It's a great walk. Come on over to Crystal River and check it out for yourself! For more information, visit www.floridastateparks.org/crystalriverpreserve.
