I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.

A little while back, I blogged about attending the National Trails Day celebration at Gold Head Branch State Park (read about it here), but I don't think I shared what happened on my way home. So here goes.
After leaving Gold Head Branch State Park I set out for home, and pulled into the Palatka Kentucky Fried Chicken drive-thru for a quick bite to eat before getting fully underway. Two-piece meal in hand, I steered my vehicle in the direction of the Ocala National Forest, the most direct and scenic route to home.
Through the Ocala National Forest I went, listening to Bob Seger on the radio and eating chicken. Then, rather suddenly, there was a bear crossing the highway! He lumbered along slowly enough for me to drop the chicken and grab my video camera, which always I keep in arm's reach for occasions such as this one. Luckily there weren't any other cars on the road at the time, and I was able to get a little bit of video of Mr. Bear crossing the highway and entering the Salt Springs Observation Trail area. For a second, he paused (I think he got a whiff of the KFC) and then headed off into the woods. Cool!
