I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.

If you're thinking of heading to northeast Florida, you won't want to miss Amelia Island. Its beautiful buildings and rich history aren't the only reasons to stop in -- this island is an excellent place for some outdoor fun in the Florida sunshine whether you want to hike, bike, SCUBA dive, or ride horses on the beach.
Here's a little list that'll put you well on your way to an active Florida vacation on one of the state's most popular islands:
Horseback riding on Amelia's white sand beaches --Â what could be better? Check out Kelly Seahorse Ranch, 7500 First Coast Highway, Fernandina Beach, (904) 491-5166, to get started.
As you might expect, there are plenty of ways to get out on the water here, both by boat and kayak. For a guided kayak tour and a great chance to see some local wildlife and scenery, get with Kayak Amlelia, 13030 Heckscher Drive, Jacksonville, (904) 251-0016.
How about some hiking, biking and beachcombing? Go to Fort Clinch State Park and Amelia Island State Park. Fort Clinch has full facility camping, nature trails, a 3.3-mile paved bike path and plenty of beach. Amelia Island State Park boasts over 200 acres of unspoiled wilderness on the southern tip of the island. There, visitors can fish, paddle, and explore to their heart's content.
Want to explore the outdoors but hiking, biking, paddling, and horseback riding aren't for you? You might want to check out EcoMotion Tours, (904) 251-9477, for some exploring by Segway.
With adventure opportunities like this, it's no wonder Amelia Island was ranked number 6 among the top 10 North American islands by Conde Nast Traveler's 2008 Reader's Choice Awards. There's plenty more to do here, and I suggest you come out and see for yourself. For more information, visit www.ameliaisland.com.
