I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.

Pioneer Settlement for Creative Arts Credit: www.pioneersettlement.org
The Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts is putting on an event to appeal to all sorts of outdoor enthusiasts -- from bow hunters to kayakers. The Pioneer Settlement for the Creative Arts Outdoor Extravaganza promises to touch on a variety of interests including hunting, canoeing and kayaking, and hiking. The event is set to take place Aug. 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The BYOB (bring your own bow) archery tournament is sponsored by the Florida Bowhunters Council. There will also be a venison cook-off, live music, numerous exhibits and pioneer re-enactors.
The Pioneer Settlement itself, located in Barberville, is dedicated to showing what life was like in rural Florida in the 19th and 20th centuries through its buildings and artifacts, which will be open for touring during the event. For more information, call (386) 749-2959 or visit www.pioneersettlement.org.
