I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.

Road To Fort Pickens Credit: Amanda Mims
Just a quick note letting everyone know that the road out to the Fort Pickens area has been re-opened.Â
Not familiar with Fort Pickens? Well, you should check out my earlier blog post about my trip to Pensacola and the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Prior to the road re-opening, the only way to get to the Fort Pickens area was to hike, take a shuttle in a Polaris off-road buggy or partially bike along the paved sections and then push through the beach sand. Trust me when I tell you that the bike trip was hard!Â
This is good news for those interested in accessing the beaches near the fort, which are incredible! Since the road just re-opened, be aware that it will take some time for the area to be fully completed. For more information, check out the announcement on the National Park Service website here.
