I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.

Celebrate National Trails Day Credit: American Hiking Society
Florida is tops in the nation when it comes to trail systems, so much that it's been named the Best Trails State by American Trails. Wherever you go in the Sunshine State, you can bet that there's a great hiking, biking, birding, equestrian or paddling trail nearby!Â
National Trails Day is right around the corner, making it the perfect occasion to get out and explore. On June 6, get out that gear and get ready to hit the trails! Florida has all sorts of great events planned, such as bike rides along the Nature Coast Trail, guided hikes with the Florida Trail Association at Gold Head Branch State Park and even a full-moon walk at the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?
With all these events around the state, I'm having a hard time choosing which one to attend! More than likely I'll head out to Gold Head Branch State Park in Keystone Heights and hang out with the great folks from the Florida Trail Association. The Brevard County Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program will have hikes out at Scottsmoor Sanctuary that sound like a lot of fun, too. Heck, who knows where I'll end up!
Visit the American Hiking Society website for more information on these events, or to find one close to you. Wherever you go, have a blast exploring Florida's award-winning trail systems!
