I'm a freelance writer and videographer, and spend most of my days exploring Florida's natural wonders from a kayak, a bike or rambling down a hiking trail. A Florida native living in Citrus County, you'll often find me watching the boats go by on the Homosassa River. I'm always sharing stories, photos and videos, so follow along and together we'll discover Florida's natural treasures.

Charlotte County's Shell Creek Credit: Charlotte Harbor Visitor & Convention Bureau
Join the staff of the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center on guided hikes at two newly acquired county properties at Shell Creek Preserve and Prairie Creek Preserve.Â
These two preserves are important habitats for several rare and threatened species. Explore several upland habitats and marshes at Shell Creek, and check out the Florida Scrub Jay at Prairie Creek Preserve. These intelligent birds are very social, and usually they will fly down and land on your shoulder!
For those interested in taking part in the Shell Creek hikes, the dates are April 19, 23, and 29. The Prairie Creek Preserve hikes are scheduled for April 16, 29, and May 2. You'll need to call for reservations, and make sure you visit www.charlotteharbortravel.com for more information regarding the hikes.
Have a blast exploring Charlotte County!
