Snowbird School, Naples: A Cornucopia of Florida Golf

So the groundhog came out of his hole, saw his shadow and predicted more winter. My question to the groundhog: What winter?
Anyway, it will still get cold and our northern neighbors will still want to head south to play golf. Naples is about as far south as you can go on Florida's southwest coast, and since it can be confusing because Naples has more golf per capita than pretty much anywhere in the world, leave it to ol' Uncle T-Mac to sort it out for the snowbirds.

If I were in Naples for a week, these are the courses I would seek out:

- TPC Treviso Bay: An upscale course built to TPC standards, this track just recently opened to the public.

- Rookery at Marco: Though it's built in a development, it sits on the edge of the Ten Thousand Islands with gorgeous views.
Â
- Tiburon Golf Club: This is where Greg Norman holds his popular Shark Shootout every year. And guess what? There's no rough to worry about, on either of these two very playable layouts.

- Naples Beach Hotel and Golf Club: It's southwest Florida's only beachfront resort that features an on-site, championship caliber golf club, an old-school layout with several re-designs.

- Old Corkscrew: A tad north of Naples, but well worth the drive. This might be the best course in southwest Florida. The setting is a near-pristine slice of old-Florida. This is another formerly private, exclusive course now open to the public. You should definitely take advantage of it.
