One of the most famous courses in the state, the Blue Monster at Doral, has a slight – but important – name change.

The Blue Monster joined the PGA Tour's TPC network through a licensing agreement. The changeover became effective Nov. 1.

The course will be known as the TPC Blue Monster at Doral. The site has hosted PGA Tour tournaments since 1962 and is now the site of the World Golf Championships-CA Championship.

You can book a "tournament vacation" on the TPC site, which includes golf on "world-class courses with a VIP tournament experience." Those experiences include The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, The Presidents Cup and, now, Doral. Click here for more information.

The Doral Golf Resort and Spa has five courses in all, including the Greg Norman designed Great White, as well as a swanky spa. The Gold course was designed by Raymond Floyd and has an island green. The Red course is a shot-makers design and the Silver course has atypical rolling fairways, as well as another island green.

It's always fun to play a course where the pros play, and the Blue Monster is no different. Just remember, as I did not when I played it recently, not to try and bomb away with your driver every hole. The pros wisely use a lot of fairway woods off the tee here. You get in the rough here, especially near tournament time with the rough grown high, and you'll be in trouble.
