Tim McDonald

A native Floridian, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else but here in Madison County, sharing my knowledge of the best greens in the world. When I'm not writing or hitting the links, I enjoy cruising the back roads on my Softail, looking for a barbecue joint or a conch steak sandwich. So, if you're looking for Florida golf tips and trips, and a little irreverence along the way - sing to me, baby!

Falcon's Fire in Kissimmee Reopens

New greens at Falcon's Fire Credit: Falcon's Fire Golf Club

If you've been missing your Falcon's Fire fix, rest easy. The upscale, semi-public, very playable Kissimmee golf course is back in business after being closed for three months.

The course shut down to renovate its greens with new TifEagle, which is a hybrid Bermuda grass.

The course should be even more fun to play now because the greens were always one of its best features; many of the greens can be approached on the ground via the bump and run because they're open in front.

They were also fast and accurate before the renovation; they should be even more so now.

Falcon's fire is a meticulously conditioned resort course with some attention-getting, risk-reward options. Its playability comes mainly from the great conditioning – never a bad lie – and the wide fairways designed by Rees Jones.

Golfers can play the course with discounted rates all month long, including replay rounds with every paid round.

The club is also having a reopening celebration Oct. 9-11 which includes a live ESPN broadcast of "The Beat of Sports" and the "Tuck & O'Neill" show.
