I'm a wordsmith, Miami native, mom of two boys and a die-hard Floridian with one pair of closed-toed shoes. We hit the road when the school bell rings to explore everything from citrus tours and sandy shores to toddler-friendly fun and teen-approved thrills. If you're looking for the perfect Florida for your family, you'll find hundreds of ideas right here - from a mom who knows.

Get ready for some rod hot fun at the famous Gatornationals. Credit: ESPN
The 43rd annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals will take place in Gainesville March 8-11, 2012 and if you're even remotely a fan, you won't want to miss this.
National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) events are famous for being one of the more family- and fan-friendly events in sports because essentially, every ticket is a "pit pass." This is unique to the NHRA (where else can you get a behind-the-scenes peek like this without shelling out big bucks or knowing someone who's really someone)? Â
This is one of the big reasons that kids love to attend – they can meet the drivers, get their autographs and get their photo taken with the cars. Insider Tip: NHRA drivers have been known to bring children into the work area and give them an even closer look at the cars!
Money-Saving Deal
Kids 12 and under get free entry with the purchase of an adult ticket at NHRA events. Purchase your tickets in advance and you'll save money, too.
More Than Hot Rods
When you aren’t watching the 8,000-horsepower cars on the track, you can keep plenty busy with the onsite fair and outdoor market. There are numerous food vendors and merchandise booths plus there are classic cars on display around the facility.  Â
For tickets, log on to to the Gainesville Raceway's website. You will love spending a few days of your spring break at these hallowed grounds! This raceway has entertained fans for decades.
