Here’s a riddle: Where do you need to wear a parka in Florida?
Â
The answer is ICE!
Â
Â
In fact, on Sat., Nov. 14, 2009, the first 2,000 visitors will receive a special-edition "opening day 2009" ICE! lapel pin (like the ones traded at the Orlando theme parks).
Â
If you’re not familiar with ICE!, it’s a magnificent walk-through display carved from 2 million pounds of ice. The exhibit is truly life-size and the showstopper this year will be a full-size crystal carousel carved from ice! Amazing!
Â
Keep Warm
You’ll need to wear close-toed shoes, and bring hats and gloves if you have them. If not, they are available for sale in the ICE! Gift Shop. They will loan you a cool blue parka to wear as you walk through since it’s kept a very frigid 9 degrees in there.
Â
You really won’t believe this place. You can slide down an ice slide, see Santa, gaze in awe at the life-size ice nativity scene and wander through an arctic forest on your way to Santa’s Ornament Room. And, you can get a very memorable family photo.
Â
Thrills and Chills
For you thrill-seekers out there, mark your calendar for Dec. 5, 2009, for the Polar Bear Club Plunge. Just like the Polar Bear Club from the frozen north where they put on their swimsuits and jump into a freezing lake, the Gaylord Palm’s version lets you wear your swimsuit and go through the freezing ICE! display. Yikes! And better yet, the Polar Bear Plunge is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Florida.
Â
To purchase your tickets,
log on to their website (this is how to get the lowest ticket prices)! They also have all kinds of deals on rooms and
vacation packages so be sure and check it out. I’m checking it out myself next weekend so stay tuned for a video!
