Celebrate Veterans' Day with Free Admission

If you’re looking for something to do this Veterans' Day, you and your family can enjoy free admission to every Florida State Park and every National Park, forest and monument on Wed., Nov. 11, in recognition of this holiday.

Do you know why we celebrate on Nov. 11? Veterans' Day was originally known as Armistice Day, which marked the anniversary of the ending of World War I -- at the eleventh hour -- on the eleventh day - of the eleventh month in 1918.

Today, this day honors veterans who have served in the military during wartime or peacetime.
Â
As for me and my family, we will be remembering my father who was a U.S. Marine - and a lover of stone crabs. He passed away five years ago, so in his honor, every Veteran’s Day, we sit down as a family and feast on his favorite crustacean -- and toast to his service.

So Happy Veterans' Day to all the Veterans! My family and I wish you a blessed day, and we thank you.
