I'm a wordsmith, Miami native, mom of two boys and a die-hard Floridian with one pair of closed-toed shoes. We hit the road when the school bell rings to explore everything from citrus tours and sandy shores to toddler-friendly fun and teen-approved thrills. If you're looking for the perfect Florida for your family, you'll find hundreds of ideas right here - from a mom who knows.

Fort Myers Beach is an awesome place to visit any time, but add in fall weather, live music, great food, pumpkin carving, sand sculpting and lots more Halloween fun, and you've got one heck of a two-day festival!
It's the 1st Annual Fort Myers Beach Art and Pumpkin Festival, and all this fun takes place at Bay Walk Place on San Carlos Blvd between 3rd Street and the Harbor on Fort Myers Beach, Oct. 24-Oct. 25, 2009. Festival hours are:
Sat., Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m and Sun., Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Check out the website for where to park, festival maps, accommodation recommendations and a whole lot more. This first annual Pumpkin Festival promises to be a smashing good time! (Sorry, I couldn't resist the pun.)
Also, please bring canned goods to donate to the Harry Chapin Food Bank. There'll be collection boxes right up front. Have a blast!
