I'm a wordsmith, Miami native, mom of two boys and a die-hard Floridian with one pair of closed-toed shoes. We hit the road when the school bell rings to explore everything from citrus tours and sandy shores to toddler-friendly fun and teen-approved thrills. If you're looking for the perfect Florida for your family, you'll find hundreds of ideas right here - from a mom who knows.

If you’re dreaming of spending time along some absolutely beautiful shores this summer, then you should check out Pensacola and Florida’s Emerald Coast in Northwest Florida. I’ve taken the liberty to pull together some free (or almost-free) activities and money-saving deals for you to peruse. If you’ve never been to Northwest Florida, then you have to go. It’s way up there on the WOW factor!

Pensacola and Pensacola Beach

Check out this list of 25 free things you can do in Pensacola!

Some of my faves:
  • Number 1: Play on stunning, white sandy beaches.
  • Number 5: Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an outdoor concert at Evenings in Old Seville (Thursdays, May - September).
  • Number 7: Watch the world-famous Blue Angels practice on most Tuesday and Wednesday mornings (March - November) at the National Naval Aviation Museum. See the Blue Angels show schedule 2009.
  • Number 23: Enjoy free admission on Tuesdays at the Pensacola Museum of Art featuring traveling exhibits of national prominence such as Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali.

Emerald Coast (Destin, Fort Walton Beach & Okalossa Island)

There are so many fun and free things to do along the Emerald Coast for families. Some of my faves are spending time on gorgeous beaches building sandcastles, bodysurfing waves, looking for shells, sunbathing and, of course, watching the fiery sunrises and sunsets.

For under $10, families can visit the U.S. Air Force Armament Museum, Indian Temple Mounds, Destin History & Fishing Museum, Emerald Coast Science Center and go fishing off the Okaloosa Pier. For under $20, you can enjoy Florida’s Gulfarium. Another little-known deal is at Big Kahuna’s water park, where you can save $10 off ticket prices with their twilight pricing, and buying tickets online saves an additional $2 per ticket!

Check out www.destin-fwb.com/emeraldspecials to access special offers and deals for your next Emerald Coast vacation.
