Olympic Sunshine State Stars: Vancouver 2010

Can you imagine what it would be like? The nerves, the pressure and the honor of representing your country in the Olympic Games all would be off the chart.
I’m keeping my fingers – and my toes – crossed for our superstar Sunshine State athletes to shine brightly in the Vancouver Games, Feb. 12-28, 2010.
Two Floridians that deserve a tip of the torch are the Cape Coral curling wonder, Jason Smith, and Jennifer Rodriguez. “Miami Ice” – as Rodriguez has been nicknamed – will be representing the U.S. in Speed Skating Long Track and holds the distinction of being the first Cuban-American to win an Olympic medal.
Other noteworthy athletes include the figure skating pairs of Amanda Evora and Mark Ladwig and U.S. champions and fellow Olympians Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett. They all train at the 115,000-square-foot Ellenton Ice and Sports Complex (in Ellenton by Bradenton).
You can skate there, too. The complex is absolutely a state-of-the-art facility and offers recreational and entertainment activities for all ages.
