Hang gliding is my passion, and in 2006, I helped the U.S. Women's Hang Gliding Team win silver in the World Championships. An author, ultimate adventure lover, beach bunny and sand snob, I've visited almost every beach in Florida and can't wait to explore more. Join me as I flip-flop across the Sunshine State, sharing the softest sand, sweetest shores and a boatload of adventure.

A Feast of Fun: Bonita Beach

After a day boating near the beaches and in the bays of the Fort Myers area, my friends and I boogied over to Doc’s Beach House, nestled on the sands of Bonita Beach, to feast on grouper sandwiches and toast the sunset. I expected that my outdoor table would be a stone’s throw to the Gulf of Mexico and that my tummy would be pleasantly filled; I did not expect that the location would also provide a feast of fun for adventure-loving beach-bunnies.

There, besides lounging on the sand and splashing in the surf, you can:
•    Bounce over the water on a WaveRunner.
•    Sail a Hobie-cat.
•    Pedal an Aqua-Cycle.
•    Try flying on a parasail ride.
•    Explore in a kayak.

I thought the coolest adventure offered was a Back Bay Dolphin Eco-Tour on WaveRunners, where you cruise the mangrove trails and open waters of Estero Bay, home to Mound Key Archaeological State Park.
