Year after year, NCAA bowl games and post-season tournaments feature a number of prominent Florida teams. One of the most storied and successful is the Gators from the University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville.
By now, we all know Gainesville has great football and basketball teams -- but did you know the area also makes a perfect home for some good golf in the rolling hills at and surrounding the UF campus? Here are a few places to perfect your swing:
- The Mark Bostick course at UF is the home to the Fighting Gators university teams and has recently been upgraded.
- Haile Plantation Golf & Country Club is a private Gary Player designed course that is a couple miles due west of the UF campus.
- Gainesville Country Club is a private course with great views of adjacent wildlife sanctuary Paynes Prairie. It is open for group outings on most Mondays.
- The city of Gainesville operates Ironwood Golf Course, an award-winning public facility.

Gainesville is an awesome place. They have some of the neatest golf courses I've ever played, but if you want to go to the club, you don't have to go far.
